POST PLACEMENT SERVICESIllinois requires a post placement visit and report one month following the international adoption. For domestic the law says to meet once a month for three months and quarterly until finalized, usually at the six month time, or 4 visits. This is sometimes waived by lawyers and judges to less visits. That can be evaluated case by case. Depending upon the country, post placement visits are provided for country/agency reports or upon request. Although we may not make formal visits, we try to stay in touch by phone or e-mail so the support is there, as needed. We want families to feel like they can call whenever they have a question or concern. ICM plans to support their adoptive families. Staff includes licensed counselors and caseworkers. There are licensed foster parents for the possibility of respite care. Staff members will work with a case as an intact family, as needed. This may include direct services or referral to services in the community. Families in Illinois are eligible for Adoption Preservation services. Each county may have different resources, but in general this may include counseling, educational advocacy, respite care, further education for parents, and activities for children and families. It is the goal to preserve adoptions whenever possible. |
