INTERNATIONAL ADOPTIONS:

ICM provides home studies for international adoptions to Christian couples and individuals who wish to receive a child from another country.

For an International Adoption you will work with the agency or individual that is helping you with the dossier preparation and the paperwork for the Citizenship and Immigration Service (CIS). This is submitted to your country and procedures vary with different countries. ICM can refer you to placing agencies to help with the dossier and placement of a child from another country, if needed. The Process: An application packet for the home study is available to interested families by contacting ICM. A home study is a summary of a family, evaluating their abilities, strengths and weaknesses, and their preparedness to adopt. It will reflect the motivation to adopt, as well as personal characteristics and background, criminal history and CANT record clearance, physical and mental evaluations, summary of training and preparation, parenting skills, marital relationship, home evaluation, financial statement, religious affiliation, comments made by references. When successfully completed, there will be a statement of approval at the end. Post placement visits are made following the arrival of the child in the home. These are made to support you through the adoption and to provide reports to agencies, courts, or countries. Illinois requires a visit and report at 30 days after arrival. Other visits and reports are required by agencies, courts, or countries. Some agencies and countries require some photos to accompany the report. The regulations for post placement visits and reports vary and are always subject to change. The adoption fees can be found in Home Study and Related Fees.

Criteria for International Home Studies

Couples and Individuals wishing to complete international home studies must meet the criteria of the chosen country. It is the applicant's responsibility to receive this information from their placing agency. Illinois requires applicants to be 21 years old. There are also regulations for the physcial home environment (available through IL 402 standards for foster homes) and for home studies.
